3. Enseñanza y aprendizaje en
ciencias naturales
Teniendo en cuenta los lineamientos
curriculares del MEN (1998), se esboza
las implicaciones pedagógicas y didácticas
que hacen referencia a unos objetivos
planteados por el área en el documento
mencionado:
Que el estudiante desarrolle un
pensamiento cientíco que le permita
contar con una teoría integral del
mundo natural dentro del contexto
de un proceso de desarrollo humano
integral, equitativo y sostenible, que
le proporcione una concepción de
sí mismo y de sus relaciones con la
sociedad y la naturaleza armónica, con
la preservación de la vida en el planeta.

Cabe resaltar que el maestro es
el encargado de desarrollar el
pensamiento cientíco, como el
primer personaje en la vida escolar
del niño, por lo que debe buscar
elementos conceptuales adecuados
para llevar a cabo este proceso.
Así, la capacidad de cuestionarse
es algo con lo que el ser humano
llega a la escuela; sin embargo,
es en ella donde se coarta la
pregunta, siendo el docente quien
tiene siempre la respuesta, por lo
que los estudiantes abandonan y
pierden la oportunidad de realizar
la indagación, perdiendo el interés
por descubrir cosas nuevas. Las
metodologías empleadas en el
área deben promover en ellos,
la utilización de capacidades
como la curiosidad, inquietud,
incertidumbre, duda, la pregunta,
entre otras. Por ende, la didáctica
de las ciencias naturales incluye
las estrategias que facilitan la
enseñanza del área y mejoran el
aprendizaje, convirtiendo la labor
docente en algo satisfactorio.
Por otra parte, se señala que los
dictados son un ejercicio mecánico
que, de cierta manera, entorpecen
el sano desarrollo del pensamiento
cientíco. Al respecto, el MEN
(1998) propone que:
La enseñanza de las ciencias naturales
y la educación ambiental debe enfatizar
en los procesos de construcción más
que en los métodos de transmisión
de resultados y debe explicitar las
relaciones y los impactos de la ciencia
y la tecnología en la vida del hombre,
la naturaleza y la sociedad. (p. 78)
Sin duda alguna, la transmisión de
conceptos no favorece el proceso
educativo, dado que, al ser una actividad
mecánica, los estudiantes la realizan sin
apropiar realmente los temas, dejando
de lado la participación y, sobre todo la
indagación, por aquellas cosas que le
generan inquietud. Por consiguiente,
el docente debe crear un ambiente de
desorden, un momento en el cual le
permita al estudiante ser democrático
dentro del aula, de suerte que posibilite
la discusión, la incertidumbre sobre lo
que lo rodea, al punto de desarrollar el
pensamiento crítico, la autonomía y la
reexión, y no ese tipo de hecho en el
cual el estudiante forma la indisciplina. De
modo que, la práctica docente en el área
de Ciencias naturales pueda considerar
la capacidad de asombro, la duda, la
inquietud, la pregunta, como herramientas
signicativas de gran provecho para la
enseñanza, pues atendiendo los intereses
del estudiante, se favorece el aprendizaje.
Este distanciamiento que se da entre las
necesidades reales que la sociedad exige
a sus ciudadanos respecto a la formación
cientíca, obliga a los formadores a una
permanente reexión crítica sobre sus
prácticas; esto es, un mirar hacia el interior
del aula, para hacer los ajustes necesarios
y poder responder a las demandas, lo cual
demanda una transformación radical de la
escuela y de la tarea docente.
Es triste ver cómo muchas instituciones
siguen hoy, atrapadas en un sistema de
enseñanza tradicional que no presta la
importancia requerida al conocimiento
cientíco, a la exploración del entorno,
a la explicación de los fenómenos y a la
indagación de los hechos; es por esto que
este trabajo servirá de plataforma para
emprender acciones que solventen esta
problemática y, más aún, que le permitan
al estudiante, ver la realidad.
