Abstract

Adolescence is a period of life in which there is a high comorbidity between eating, emotional and affective problems; however, in empirical evidence, instability is reported in the associations between these variables. Therefore, a study was conducted on the advances in knowledge on these relationships, whose objective was to map the scientific production on the relationship between eating problems and internalized behaviors in adolescents, covering a period from 2019 to 2024. A scoping review of articles published in the EBSCO, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and PsycArticles databases was conducted. 52,643 records were found, of which 24 were selected for the present analysis. The results indicated that adolescents are more likely to present eating disorders with internalized behaviors, particularly in late adolescence, becoming more common the relationship between bulimia and anorexia nervosa, with behaviors such as anxiety and depression. In addition, females are more likely to suffer from eating disorders than males by a ratio of 9 to 1. These findings suggest prevention and intervention strategies for adolescents with eating disorders and internalizing behaviors.
