Authorship

All the people that appear in an applicant manuscript are cataloged as authors, since it is understood that they have made scriptural contributions both to the research and to the elaboration of the manuscript; that is, there is a shared responsibility when the article presents errata (errors), fraud (false results), plagiarism (copy of another) or self-plagiarism (copy of itself). Plagiarism is an unacceptable conduct, considered a serious breach of professional ethics, and carries legal and criminal penalties.

After the initial presentation of a manuscript, the addition, deletion or change in the order of the authors is not accepted, since it is the duty of the publishing entity as well as the authors to ensure an adequate ethical conduct.

Basic criteria of authorship

The Council of Science Editors (CSE), heir since 2000 of the Council of Biology Editors (Ruíz-Pérez, Marcos-Cartagena and Delgado, 2014), establishes the authorship when it has participated in:

  • The idea and design of the study.
  • The acquisition or analysis of data.
  • The writing of the article or its intellectual critical review.
  • The final approval of the manuscript that will be published.

Note: data collection or other routine tasks are not sufficient to achieve the right of authorship. People who participate in the data collection are recognized for their work through their mention in the acknowledgments; in that way, they obtain their respective credits.

General criteria of authorship

  1. The order of appearance of the authors will be respected, according to the one designated at the time of delivery of the manuscript, since it is a joint decision of the co-authors.
  2. It is the responsibility of the authors to provide the complete names and their correct writing, to eliminate later confusions. It is recommended to standardize the signature and the name correctly, so that it does not affect the citation index or obtain the respective credits.
  3. Students and advisors of degree projects can appear as authors if their participation conforms to the basic criteria of authorship described above.

The Editorial UNIMAR, as publishing entity, reserves the right to reject the manuscript when it has been submitted to the journal and fails to comply with the Guide for authors of the Journal, or the Ethics Policy. It should be noted that under no circumstances will the withdrawal of an article be accepted during any phase of the editorial process, considering that the different processes and procedures demand financial and human resources that should be used to the maximum, which are assumed by this unit.

Plagiarism

The candidate manuscripts will be submitted to the anti-plagiarism software implemented by Editorial UNIMAR; those that exceed the coincidence rate of 20% will be discarded immediately. In those that identify minor difficulties of citation, the respective commentary and accompaniment will be made, to continue the evaluation process.

Peers

Peer reviewers are characterized by carrying out a rigorous, clear and formal evaluation.

It is their duty to inform the editor in those cases where there is suspicion of plagiarism, self-plagiarism and / or fraud; that is, copy, self-copy, falsification or manipulation of the results of the investigation.

They cannot make use of the information of the manuscript that they evaluate (such as disclosure of results prior to publication, or disclosure of the elaborated concepts) for personal benefit, make it known or make it available for the benefit of any other person and organization.

If in the reading of the work they find any ethical impediment or conflict of interest that may affect the issuance of the concept, they must inform the editor (a) to reassign the document to another peer reviewer.

Duplication of publications or multiple publications

Duplicate publication means that a manuscript or part of it has been previously published and that has an ISSN or ISBN as a result of participation in forums, meetings, congresses, among others, therefore, it will not be taken into account for evaluation, and it will be withdrawn at the moment in which this situation is known.

Keep in mind that, although it is possible to generate several products of an investigation, this does not mean that several publications that show the same results are admitted, with minimal and insignificant changes. For this case, the authors must do a different scriptural process for each article that they wish to present. In addition, publication with fragmentation (salami effect) should be avoided, where research results are divided into several manuscripts, which only deteriorates its quality.

The intentional sending or sending of a work to more than one magazine is considered a breach of the editorial ethics, therefore, a serious fault.

Transfer of copyright

By participating in the call, the author authorizes Mariana University, specifically Editorial UNIMAR, to be able to exercise on his/her work, the following attributions, faculties of temporary and partial use, aimed at disseminating, facilitating, promoting and deconstructing knowledge, product of the research, review and reflection processes:
