Abstract

Madera de Coco is the commercial name given to the first patent of the Universidad Mariana entitled: PROCESO PARA LA FABRICACIÓN DE TABLEROS AGLOMERADOS A PARTIR DE ESTOPA DE COCO. The invention consists of a novel process that seeks to enhance the use of the main residue of coconut production, coconut husk, in the manufacture of chipboards in a simple, practical and accessible way. The process improves the physicomechanical characteristics required for this type of material under NTC 2261, generating a high-quality product that is malleable, resistant to humidity and heat. With the aim of commercializing this technology, the team of inventors formed by graduates of the Process Engineering program Jonnathan Cundar Rosero, Edwin Steven Jurado Martínez and Daniel Solarte Álvarez and the professor of the same program Angela Sofía Parra Paz, have made an effort to apply to different calls for proposals in order to improve the technology, as well as to get support to promote and commercially scale the product. Thus, Madera de coco was selected to participate in the most important Circular Economy challenge in Colombia: CircularEconomy4Colombia.
