Abstract

The electrostatic precipitator is one of the devices used to decrease the amount of particulate matter (PM) by an electric field, which causes the particles in suspension to be removed out of the gas stream and collected on the plates; This case study was conducted in order to reduce the concentrations of air pollutant particles, from a combustion of recycled paper, benefiting living beings, since the density of the smoke is reduced, with this it is generated that the respiratory diseases whether acute or asthmatic episodes.

Therefore, a design and construction of an electrostatic precipitator at pilot scale was proposed, for which the Venturi tube equipment was used as the emitting source, which served to simulate the combustion in a typical industrial boiler. From which it was obtained that the designed electrostatic precipitator was able to reduce 98% of PM over the emitting source.
